Living a low waste lifestyle

This earth we live on deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. This beautiful blue planet gives us life. I also want to leave it in good shape for future generations to come. So I try my best to live as low waste as possible, I'm no where near perfect but I think if we all try a little it can make a big difference. When I first learnt about living a low waste lifestyle it took me years to get where I am at today. Below I will list some simple swaps that can make a big difference over time.

  1. Wool dryer balls- No chemicals, softens clothing, last a long time and cut your drying time! WIN WIN WIN

  2. Bamboo toothbrush- these toothbrushes are amazing because they are biodegradable ! Plastic toothbrushes take over 1000 years to biodegrade.

  3. Reusable shopping bags- these are great because you can use them over and over again! Less plastic is better for our planet!

  4. Glass tupperware - lasts way longer than plastic and is easier to recycle. Also its easier to clean.

  5. Thrifting before buying new. I love to thrift and find some pretty awesome finds. When I need some new clothing whether its for me or the kiddos I always try to thrift it before buying new. This means less clothing in landfills and when buying second hand you are reducing carbon and chemical pollution that is used when making clothing especially fast fashion.

  6. Using bar soap. We no longer buy plastic bottle body washes and use bar soaps. We usually buy them locally at our grocery store or at the apothecary. Less packaging means less resources used.

  7. Stainless Steel straws- I love these so much! Again less plastic in our oceans and they are easy to clean.

  8. We don't buy saran wrap or plastic snack bags. Instead I use cloth bowl covers and reusable snack bags that I can wash and my glass tupperware

  9. Compost your veggies and fruits. Composting is great for adding back nutrients and water into the soil. We love composting at our home , the kids get involved and in the fall we add the soil back into our garden beds. This also cuts back on garbage going to the landfill.

  10. Eat more local foods. Eating in season isn't always easy in the town we live but is possible. When eating what's in season it helps cut back on produce being shipped and packaged. Farmers markets are a great place to buy local in season foods, I always look forward to the farmers market opening up again!

Just remember there is no perfect human so when starting these swaps give yourself grace and patience. These are just 10 swaps that I have implemented and hope to continue to learn and grow at being more sustainable. Lets make everyday Earth Day!
